I am extremely excited about recent advances in computer hardware. In software, almost everything is possible. But hardware has always been, and will probably always be, a bottleneck. An old 386 PC can only do so much and not more. A Quad-core can similarly only do so much, and not more. But the amazing power of non-integrated graphics cards has spawned a new idea – non-integrated general purpose processing cards. I am referring to technologies like Nvidia’s CUDA – Compute Unified Device Architecture. This is some seriously exciting stuff for my Artificial General Intelligence work. CUDA processors natively support multiple simultaneous threads on specialized hardware, making PCs powerful computing machines.
The ‘others’ are coming. Who are the others? They are intelligent, conscious machines.
