Regular readers of my blog will know that I have recently started teaching myself 3D modelling. Very excitedly, yesterday, I showed a master modeler acquaintance the two heads I have modeled (previous posts). This guy is AMAZING, he is really very good. Do you know what he told me? He told me that my models are ok for a start, but my topology is all wrong and there are certain rules that one needs to follow when modeling heads, and studying some tutorials might help me. That took the wind out of my sails! But actually, I love that. It is true – my topology is all wrong and my modeling is terrible bad. That kind of thing is actually the wind in my sails, the force that drives me. Someone telling my that, well honestly, my work is not that good at all – that inspires me to rectify the problem, to learn more – to become good. Thank you for the honesty.
There is a lesson to be learnt – deluding yourself is setting yourself back. Even if it feels good.
Ciao.
