“Agents are coming”

No, not agents from The Matrix. An Agent in Farve is a virtual ‘organism’ consisting of sensory receptors, effectors, and an EXCON control system. An Agent operates in a virtual world. The goal of the Agent concept in my Farve project is simple: to test and analyze and ultimately, show off my A.I. system in action.

I am at Revision 70 of my code, and I have started implementing the first Agent. I will elaborate later, but for now I will wet your appetite by saying that the Agent will occupy and navigate 3-Dimentional space – and I am proud of myself because I have figured out the math behind 3D pitch-yaw-roll motion last night. Seeing my first agent learning by itself (using reinforcement learning with both Exploration and Exploitation) should be impressive.

Sometimes, I envy creationists

Why does life have to be so unfair? Why are there so many good people that suffer, while there are so many bad people that live in luxury and in health? Why? Because it is all random.

I get so depressed, thinking of the good but sick and poor people who, in a philosophical sense, deserves more, when comparing them to the lucky ones who, in a philosophical sense, deserves less.

At these times I sometimes envy creationists who have the religious shield of ‘It is His Plan’ and ‘We will understand one day’. It must make life much easier. For us scientists, though – well we do not have this escape mechanism. We have to somehow try to face, and overcome, the horror of the truth, which is that bad things do happen to good people, and moreover, we are powerless to do anything about it.

I am sorry Lory, that I am powerless.

DependencyProperties

Did you know that, if you register a DependencyProperty in .NET, and you create get and set accessors for it, then the get and set accessors DO NOT GET CALLED by the .NET property system?

Religulous – a ‘review’ (of sorts).

I watched the newly released “Religulous” DVD this weekend, and it was quite cool. Not very scientific or serious even – but it does show how ridiculous any kind of religion is. Or rather – how rediculous our modern literal interpretation of these beautiful mythological stories, intended to bring wisdom through symbolism, are. Are you, reading this, religious in a “there-is-a-spirit-in-the-sky-who-especially-made-us-and-loves-us” sense? Then grow up. We who make THINKING and DOUBTING and INVESTIGATION and KNOWLEDGE and LOGICAL JUSTICE/GOODNESS our ‘religion’, we are tired of you religious types who think that the pope - living a life of luxury in his bloody millions-of-dollars-to-maintain castle, with his thousands-of-dollars clothes and golden candleholders and whatnot -  is holy; you who say that God will take care of you and His Will will happen and He is All Powerful – but then go to doctors for their medicine to make you feel better and ultimately not die - well what can I say? Probably nothing. Religion is, simply, ridiculous. The evolution of species is a FACT. Do you even KNOW that the pope himself admitted this? Then of course the story changed – “no, but God started evolution and is controlling it…”.  What the heck, man? Fact is, we evolved, God did not create Adam and then ripped a piece of his rib out to create Eve, and then a talking snake made poor Eve eat a fruit which made us evil… even the pope admitted this years ago already. EVEN THE POPE. Do you understand that significance?  He is to you the kinda important guy, a mediator between God and man. He said that the creation story, and it follows also the subsequent stuff like exile from Eden – is obviously nonsense. HE SAID THAT. C’mon.

My aunt did not know the pope said this. She still thinks I am lying about it. She still thinks that evolution is not an accepted fact. Why? Because it obviously contradicts her religion. So she will not believe me that it is on record and well-known worldwide, that the pope admitted that evolution is a fact. She believes in Adam and Eve and talking snakes and talking bushes on fire and talking donkeys. It is just ridiculous.

It is said that Jesus wore only the least nescessary clothes and sandals because he gave everything he could to others. Every Sunday when you step into the beautiful large church building with expensive organs and stuff – just ask yourself – would Jesus have done this? Would he have WANTED this? Or would he have sold his expensive BMW or Mercedes, sold the expensive organ, downgraded the church the the minimum required by selling the luxuries, and used all that lots and lots of money to actualy help a beggar in the street? Answer that – not to me but to yourself: What would Jesus have done?  And then ask yourself: Am I actually religious?  And then, go read up on some history. Learn about all of the other Jesusses, who healed the sick, who was killed on 25 December to ‘die for our sins’, who stood up three days after his death… the Christian story is not original people.

I know how sensitive people can be about this subject. I was inspired by the movie to write this, and I have no desire to discuss this with anyone (because people on the other side of the argument do NOT discuss, they attack, and I have no time for that). We are so indoctrined, we even think that thinking about religion is a sin. That is just sad. It is ridiculous.

Lorena is coming!

Lorena, the only girl that I ever felt love for (perhaps strangely, it is possible to love someone you met over the internet and only ever spoke to over the phone – she lives in Romania), is coming to visit me! I have asked her to think about coming to visit me, and to talk to her parents about it, and she did, and they agreed to let her come to visit me!

That is cool.

Celebrate Dedication

Hi. I am studying the Fourier transform, which is a mathematical concept. All I need to say in this post is; we must celebrate dedication. Those who know me know that I do not swear. And I apologise beforehand for my language. But it is something I need to say. There are people in the world that are so f&cking smart… when learning about Newton and Gauss and Leipniz and Fourier I am just so awed and humbled by these people. I do believe, there may be intelligent life in other star systems, but the likelihood that it is as bloody intelligent like us is small. I stand, completely humbled, before these men. They have dedicated their lives to knowledge and they are awesome.

Life

Life is full of twists and turns. It is the uncertainty that gets me sometimes. But Lorena is OK, and I was uncertain about that. But now my worst birthday ever has become my best birthday ever. Life. When it is bad, it can be BAD. But it can also be very, very good. All I can say is, don’t let life get you down. You have only one so hang on… for dear life.
